Q-1. What does “punk” mean to you? Also, how do you feel a connection or relationship
to “punk”?
A. Not suppressing your emotions, saying what you want to say, living as you want to live without worrying about what other people may think.
Q-2. Why do you feel the punk perspective is important now, in 2021?
A. For me, punk is the first music that reached out through the radio and spoke to me,back in those days. What it gave me back then is still going around and around inside my body. It’s not about importance, it’s that punk still continues to move throughout my body.
Q-3. What was the reason you chose Stella McCartney for your first ever collaboration with a fashion brand? What connection do you feel with Stella McCartney?
A. Beyond being a designer, I think she has extremely clear ideas as an individual about how society should be, about environmental issues, etc., and this is reflected in how she lives her life.
Q-4. What power do you think fashion and art have to communicate messages? Also, what power do they have to influence change?
A. I’ve never thought about it.
Q-5. What inspiration do you get from the young generation today?
A. I’m more interested in the culture created by the youth of the 1960s and 70s, than the youth of today.
Q-6. What values do you want to share with the youth of today? Do you think they have the punk spirit, the punk attitude?
A. When I see young people who have opinions about the wrongs of the world and stand up against them (like Greta Thunberg, for example), and their global-scale, independent solidarity, I’m impressed by their spirit that doesn’t carelessly rely on adults or capitalism, and makes me want stand with them.
